The Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with Operation Delta Sweep, has neutralised two suspected kidnappers in a joint operation that also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 40 rounds of live ammunition.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owa-Oyibu at about 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17.

The report indicated that suspected kidnappers were sighted at Nniogbo, Owa-Ekei, in Boji Boji Owa.

Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilised a combined team of police operatives, local vigilantes, and two units of Operation Delta Sweep. On storming the suspects’ hideout in the bush, the team came under heavy gunfire.

The operatives engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, during which two suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries. They were rushed to Owa-Alero General Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead.

Recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle, 40 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two magazines. Police say a manhunt has been launched to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the exchange.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the synergy between the Police, Operation Delta Sweep, and local vigilantes, describing it as a clear demonstration of the Command’s renewed commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes across the State.

He assured residents that security operatives would remain proactive and urged the public to continue providing timely information to aid ongoing operations.
