Delta Police Officers Turn Allege “Extortion” To Money Making Venture

Police personnel drafted from the State Anti-Criminal Kidnapping Squard (SARS), of the Delta state Police Command have purportedly turned the arrest of “Yahoo boys” into a very lucrative business enterprise in the state.

Few days ago, two boys with Black 4Matic Mercedes Jeep with Registration number LSD494GF, were flanked down opposite the Oshimili south local government Secretariat for stop and search.

According to eyewitnesses, after a thorough search and the car, nothing increaminating was found on them, the police officer allegedly refused to let them go.

It was learnt that after purportedly dispossessing them of the cash they were on, the officer still refused to let them out of his net until the second occupant of the car traced a nearby POS to withdraw undisclosed amount of money to makeup for the balance allegedly demanded by the police.

It was gathered that while the second occupant of the car was away, another police officer was stationed to be with the occupant on the driver’s seat to monitor him from speeding off.

Although a senior police officer promised to investigate the allegation levelled on his boys when contacted but he is yet to reach out to The Story, as promised.

In another development, this morning, Friday 18th October 2020, another set of SARS officers stopped a driver with Lexus 350 with registration number EPE729GF, and another Red 4Matic Jeep.

After a thorough search were conducted on both vehicles, with nothing increaminating uncovered, the SARS officers forcefully pushed the vehicle owners into their various cars and assigned two police officers each who were among other officers with Horse-blood colour Sienna with registration number: BW870AGL, to drive the various vehicles to an undisclosed destination.

The decision to drive them away from public eyes, would not be unconnected to allege extortion by the police.

The police in their search for “Yahoo boys”, to allegedly enrich their bank accounts, takes every flashing car owners and drivers as Yahoo boys whom they allegedly extort on daily basis.

It will be recalled that based on the alleged criminal activities of State Anti-Criminal Squard SARS, Nigerians designed a harsh tag against SARS, a situation that compared the Inspector General due to public outcry who promised to tackle such criminal activities. 

That promise according to keen observers have remained in unattended to as Nigerians are yet to see the light of the promise.

As anger among Nigerians continue to swell, observers are watching and waiting to see how this alleged “black market” activities of the supposed law enforcement agents (police) which has taken a flight to the ivory tower, waiting to explode would be tackled.
