Delta Police Foil Armed Robbery, Arrest Ex-Convict, Recover Firearms, Stolen Items

The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing onslaught against crime, with the arrest of suspected armed robbers, recovery of a firearm, and the interception of stolen property.

Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the Command has continued to enforce its intelligence-driven, proactive policing strategy, mandating Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and heads of formations to intensify surveillance and ensure effective policing across the state.

In one of the recent operations, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), while on stop-and-search duty along DBS Road, Asaba, on August 16, 2025, apprehended one Bassey Udoh, 39, of Custom Market, Asaba.

The suspect, who appeared uneasy at the sight of officers, was searched, leading to the recovery of an English Beretta pistol concealed in his cross bag.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Udoh is part of a syndicate notorious for breaking into homes and carting away valuables.

He reportedly confessed to purchasing the weapon for ₦30,000. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

Similarly, on August 11, 2025, operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad, while on visibility patrol in Asaba, swiftly responded to a distress call over a missing motorcycle.

In collaboration with members of the Nigeria Hunters and Security Services (NHSS), officers arrested Precious Okoro, 27, of ULO Street, Asaba, and Buhari Deyegu, 18, of Ibusa Road, Asaba. The stolen motorcycle was recovered.

Investigations revealed that Okoro, an ex-convict, had only been released from the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility on August 6, 2025, after serving a two-year jail term for a similar motorcycle theft.

Shockingly, he was arrested for the same crime barely five days after his release.

A search conducted at his residence led to the recovery of two generators, a Tiger and a Fireman brand, along with an iron measuring scale, all suspected to be stolen.

Confirming the developments, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, assured residents that the Command remains steadfast in dismantling criminal networks across the state.

“These arrests reflect the Command’s commitment to proactive policing. Under CP Abaniwonda’s directive, we are determined to rid Delta State of criminal elements and ensure a safer environment for law-abiding citizens,” Edafe said.

The suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
