Commissioner Aina Adesola has ordered the redeployment of DPO Jesse CSP Chidi Nwabuzor and launched an investigation into claims that officers extorted N2.5 million  from a woman’s family for the release of her brother in custody.

In a release on Friday January 9, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, noted: “This follows a viral video in which a woman claims that Officer Bright, Officer Usman, and the Division Police Officer (DPO) Jesse CSP Chidi Nwabuzor coerced her into paying the amount for the release of her brother, currently in custody”.

Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola has taken immediate action regarding the allegations.

On January 1, 2026, the youth leader of the Jesse community brought several suspects to the police station, including the woman’s younger brother, Israel Onojeruo, aged 20.

Onojeruo was arrested based on a confession from another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who claimed to have sold a firearm to him.

Following this, the suspects were transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.

In light of the extortion accusations, CP Aina Adesola has ordered the Assistant Commissioner of Police for the X-Squad to investigate the matter thoroughly.

The DPO’s removal responds to multiple complaints of extortion and unprofessional conduct from various sources.

CP Adesola has assured the public that any officers found guilty of unprofessional behavior during the investigation will face appropriate disciplinary actions in line with the Police Act and regulations.

The Commissioner emphasized a zero-tolerance stance on extortion, intimidation, and unprofessionalism within the command.
