The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition across the state.

Acting on credible intelligence provided by the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended a female suspect, Jamila Abubakar, at Conoil Filling Station, Warri–Patani Road, Effurun.

Upon her arrest, officers discovered a sum of ₦550,000, neatly concealed in her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illegal transactions. Her arrest provided vital intelligence that led to a swift follow-up operation.

Acting on this new information, the operatives stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they arrested a notorious arms dealer, Ahmed Ibrahim (male, 31 years), of Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, at about 0725hrs on 22nd October, 2025.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of the following items: 115 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition and 32 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a major supplier of arms to bandit groups in the northern region and has long been on the Command’s watchlist.

He is also alleged to have been involved in several high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery cases, including the abduction and killing of Ogheneovo Onemu (female), who was kidnapped on 17th May, 2024, at Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, and later murdered despite a ransom payment of ₦4,000,000.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, described the arrests and recovery as a major milestone in the Command’s renewed strategy to disrupt criminal networks, stem the flow of illicit arms, and ensure justice for victims of violent crimes.

He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying and dismantling all criminal syndicates operating within the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist ongoing operations.

“This breakthrough demonstrates our collective resolve to make Delta State unsafe for criminals. We will continue to sustain this momentum until every illegal network is dismantled,” CP Abaniwonda assured.

The Commissioner further emphasized that the Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, ensuring that peace and security prevail across all communities in the state.
