The Delta State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, following a series of successful operations that led to the arrest of notorious armed robbery suspects, recovery of stolen vehicles, and the dismantling of a major drug syndicate in Ughelli and its environs.

Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, while addressing the press, emphasized that the creation of the Ughelli Area Command has already begun to yield positive results in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.

He assured residents that the Command would sustain its momentum to ensure peace and security in the region.

On August 26, operatives of the Ughelli Area Command apprehended members of a five-man robbery gang linked to a violent attack in Agbarho/Otor. Items recovered include a 65-inch television, PlayStation 4, laptops, and mobile phones.

Two suspected stolen vehicles were also retrieved. Notably, the gang leader, Samson Ugbe, alias “Big Man”, who had long been on the Command’s wanted list, was captured alongside his accomplices.

On August 25, intelligence-led policing resulted in the arrest of Henry Bernard (35), Justice Ayero (39), and Oho Ogbavwomera, all of Udu Local Government Area, who specialize in robbing motorcycle riders at gunpoint.

A raid on their hideout led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, daggers, hacksaws, and other tools used in their operations.

On August 29, operatives stormed Afisere community in Ughelli and arrested Egbule Isioma (52), a notorious drug dealer, along with three apprentices.

A search conducted at her store and residence uncovered 355 bottles of codeine syrup, over 900 rolls of tramadol capsules, cannabis, and other banned substances. Investigations confirm she has been a major distributor of illicit drugs in the Ughelli axis.

On August 24, police recovered a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 Jeep and a Lexus RX350 Jeep following the arrest of Igenebo John (35).

Further investigation revealed that the vehicles were violently stolen during a robbery in Sapele, in which valuables worth millions of naira and ₦1.9 million cash were carted away. Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate, including the prime suspect identified only as “Ameachi.”

Commitment to Security
Speaking on the operations, CP Abaniwonda commended the resilience of the Ughelli Area Command and urged residents to continue providing timely information to the police.

“The Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to rid our communities of crime and criminality. With the deployment of the Ughelli Area Command, residents can be assured of improved security and swift response to distress calls,” he said.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, reiterated that investigations are ongoing, and all arrested suspects will be charged to court upon completion of case files.
