The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on cultism, armed criminality, and the proliferation of illicit firearms, following two successful operations in Agbor and Warri.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operations were executed with precision and swift response, reinforcing the Command’s commitment to public safety and security across the state.
Two Suspected Cultists Arrested in Agbor
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Agbor Division, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Ojeifo Street by Iduwe in Agbor on November 8 at about 5:35 p.m., where suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity were allegedly gathering.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, led a combined team comprising divisional patrol units and the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit to the scene.
The operatives arrested two suspected notorious cult members, Agu Nnamdi of Ohumere Quarters, Agbor, and Promise Banco of No. 36 Iduwe by Ojeifo Street, Agbor-Obi.
In an attempt to evade detection, the suspects allegedly hid a locally fabricated pistol in a black nylon bag, but officers uncovered the weapon during a search.
SP Edafe said both suspects are in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are underway to track fleeing members who took to their heels during the raid.
Illicit Firearms, Mobile Devices Recovered in Abandoned Tricycle in Warri
In a separate operation, surveillance operatives from ‘B’ Division, Warri, on November 16 at about 9:30 a.m. intercepted a suspicious tricycle rider who was conveying two passengers along Arubi Street off DECO Road.
The operatives, led by CSP Josephine Ekebuike, pursued the vehicle after observing the rider driving aggressively against traffic.
The chase ended at First Marine Quarters, where the occupants abandoned the tricycle and fled through nearby streets.
A thorough search of the abandoned tricycle yielded two locally fabricated double-barrelled guns, nine assorted mobile phones, four power banks, and a screwdriver.
The area has since been cordoned off, with intensified stop-and-search operations ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
CP Olufemi Reassures Public of Sustained Crackdown
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives involved and reiterated the Command’s resolve to dismantle cult groups and criminal networks operating across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue providing timely, credible information to the Police, assuring that such reports would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
