In a dramatic twist of events in Delta State, police officers have arrested a girl, Princess Okolie who orchestrated her own kidnapping in an attempt to extort two million naira from his unsuspecting family.
The police also nabbed her accomplice boyfriend, Prince Atigbi, who “played the script” of his girlfriend, Okolie, who confessed that her action was to extort money from her parents.
However, diligent investigations by the Delta Police uncovered the deceit after tracing the phone calls to his hideout.
During the operation, the police recovered the full ransom amount, which had already been collected by the conspirators.
The suspect confessed to the crime, citing financial desperation as his motive, while authorities vowed to prosecute her and her accomplice to serve as a deterrent to others.
A release on Wednesday January 8, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, revealed that the command’s special Anti-kidnapping and cyber-crime squad effected their arrest.
Hear him: “The command on 2/1/2025 received a complaint from One mrs Oliko Joy that her daughter Princess Okolie left the house on 30th December 2024 and did not return.
“The next day, the parents received a call that the daughter had been kidnapped and they demanded a ransom of two million naira.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda immediately directed the command’s special Anti-kidnapping and cyber-crime squad to ensure that the victim is rescued unhurt and the suspect arrested.
The commander special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad CSP Labe Joseph detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation.
“The other suspect, Prince Atigbi, was arrested after collecting a ransom of two million naira (#2,000,000).
“Upon the arrest of the suspect, he stated that he was not an actual kidnapper but was playing the script of his girlfriend Princess Okolie.
“The girl was arrested, and she said that she faked her kidnap so that they could get money from her parent.
“Both suspects are in custody, the ransom money recovered and the investigation is ongoing”.
