In a bid to arrest insecurity in Nigeria, especially at the grassroot levels, stakeholders have called for effective ways to equip vigilante groups.
The Senator representing Delta north in the National Assembly (NASS), Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, donated a Toyota Hilux to the Igbuzo Community Policing (ICP), Oshimili north local government area of Delta State.
Senator Nwaoboshi, who doubles as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to the local security outfit in a bid to tackle insecurity especially Fulani herdsmen killing, kidnapping, rituals, rape and cult related activities.
According to him, the efforts of ICP need to be complimented as a result of the good job by the outfit, donating the vehicle on behalf of his family and the good people of Igbuzo Community, promising to constantly support the outfit in his own capacity.
Chairman, Oshimili north local government area, Mr. Louis Ndukwe, in his remarks, intimated the officers and men of ICP that the gesture was in fulfilment of the Senator’s promise to support the operation of the outfit for a better and secured Igbuzo which be beneficial to everyone.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Igbuzo Police Division thanked Senator Nwaoboshi for the kind gesture, noting that since he took over the affairs of the Nigerian Police in Igbuzo, there has been telepathic understanding between the Police Force and the local security outfit which has led to so many success stories.
He assured Senator Nwaoboshi of their constant and unrelenting efforts towards reducing crime in Igbuzo to the barest minimum.
In his acceptance speech, the Commandant of the outfit thanked Senator Nwaoboshi, immensely for keeping to his promises, assuring that the outfit would judiciously utilize the vehicle for security of lives and properties in and around Igbuzo.
It would be recall that traditional rulers in Delta north, had invited political office holders to discuss the way forward on the security challenges and profer solutions.
