They were apprehended in various locations across the state by the police just as the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ari Muhammed Ali, disclosed that out of the violators, 36 are males while the rest are females.
Ali made the disclosure during a press briefing where he paraded the suspects along others for various degree of crimes, stressing that in the fullest of time, they would appear in court.
Said he: “In compliance with the state government COVID-19 imposed curfew on the state from 2200 hours – 0400 hours, raid and restriction of movement were carried out by the command and a total of 46 suspects comprising 36 males an 10 females who violated the order were arrested from different spots in the state”.
Speaking on others arrested for various degree of crimes, Ali said, two pump actions, one Beretta pistol, two locally made guns, eight 9mm ammunition, 134 live cartridges, one can of chemical tear gas and one AK47 magazines, were recovered.
According to the Police boss, eight stolen cars, two big coils of aluminum roofing sheets, one military camouflage uniform, two handsets, one military dagger, six ATM cards, two ID cards, N45,000 and three Itel phones were also recovered.
On the accident which claimed a mother and her four months old baby at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), leading to the arrest of an alleged “Fake Publisher”, one Onoriode Oyiborhor, Ali hinted: “The Divisional Police Ebrumede reported that sequel to a fatal multiple motor/tricycle accident which occurred along PTI expressway Effurun involving a Mercedes tipper with Reg. No. WWR 425 ZR loaded with granite, a Toyota Camry car with Reg. No. AKD 403 FM and a tricycle Reg. Yet unknown all moving in the same direction.
“Two (2) of the passengers inside the tricycle, a woman and a baby girl died on the spot while other passengers injured were rushed to Agbarho Specialist Hospital Agbarho, Police Traffic Officer personnel detailed to the scene were resisted by angry mob who assaulted the traffic officers and chased them away.
“A distress call was made by the DTO, Ebrumede and patrol team 001 raced to the scene. They were attacked and pelted with stones, sticks and broken bottles. While escaping from the mob the vehicle fell into a ditch and the mob set the vehicle on fire. The mob equally stormed Ebrumede Division but were repelled.
“Contrary to information in circulation that Operations Delta Hawk caused the accident, eye witness account, who were also the survivors of the accident said, no police patrol team caused the accident.
“On 21/01/2021 at about 1243hrs, detectives in collaboration with officials of Tipper Garage Effurun arrested one Young Onoyotakaroma 40yrs of Otokutu by Jeddo Street, Otokutu Ebrumede. The driver of Mercedes Benz tipper Reg. No. WWR 425 ZR that caused the accident at PTI ‘U’ turn, which resulted to the death of the deceased and the setting ablaze of a police patrol vehicle by mob. The allegation was debunked by the driver of the Camry car involved in the accident.
“From the viral video clip, the author of the online publication, one Onoriode Oyiborhor ‘m’ 24yrs was arrested along with one Chukwudi Paul Kangum ‘m’ 33yrs who participated in setting the Police vehicle ablaze were arrested and they confessed to the criminal act. Investigation is ongoing to arrest others and bring them to book”, he added.
