The Chief Magistrate Court 1, sitting in Agbor, has remanded a youth identified as Daniel, at the Correctional center in Agbor, Ika south local government area of Delta state.
The suspect who is a none indigene of Agbor, landed in court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Agbor in connivance with his cohort who is at large.
His case on two counts charge which includes conspiracy and stealing was read before him and subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges against him before the Chief Justice, Magistrate Dike.
The court proceedings held on Thursday November 25, 2021, witnessed ten (10) lawyers from the Nigeria Bar Association, Agbor led by Barr. J. C. Ebu holding watch brief for the complainant, Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante group.
Other lawyers includes; Barr. I. Kalikwu, Chief Barr. O. J. Onyeaghor, Barr. O. C. Okoje, Barr. D. O. Ehiedu, Barr. C. J. Onyejoseh, Barr. S. C. Ezewali, Barr. Azuka Samuel, Barr. L. Etu and Barr. Atisai.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice in his rulings adjourned the case to December 9, 2021 for fact and sentence while Daniel remains at the Correctional center in Agbor.
The Chairman of Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante, Comr. Monday Kiyem, while fielding questions from journalists explained that their quick response to a distress call led to the arrest of the suspect.
He said on reaching the location, Daniel and his cohort abandoned the stolen motorcycle and ran into the bush while they gave them hot chase to have Daniel caught and handed over to the police.
He said Daniel confessed that his gang usually comes to Agbor steal motorcycles and later take the stolen property to Owerri for sale.
Comr. Kiyem added that his team, Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante along side other local security outfits such as Anti-cult volunteer Corps, Anioma Security watch, Ihuyase Vigilante group and Owa Youth Council Vigilante were the at court to ensure that Justice is served.
He used the medium to appreciate the Agbor monarch, HRM. Dr. Benjamin Ikenchuku, Keagborekuzi 1, the Dein of Agbor for sending his palace Chiefs to witness the court proceedings.
Barr. Ikechuku Kalikwu, while speaking to the newsmen, appreciated the security groups for their synergy in combating crimes in Ika land, saying that the groups of gallant men have done marvellously well since they started operations in the areas.
“They have reduced the level of criminality in this kingdom and we appreciate them,” he said.
Speaking further, Barr. Kalikwu affirmed that the level of lawyers which appeared for the case, proves that they were also interested in the case while in a bid to put a stop to criminalities within Ika kingdom.
Meanwhile, he advised the youths to engage themselves meaningfully as crime will end them up nowhere but at prisons.
On his part, Chief Barr. Jackson Onyeaghor also commended the local security groups for the enormous job, but urged the group to always handed over any suspect arrested to the police and also follow up with the case.
“We want to see that this menace ends especially this yuletide period,” he said.
He remarked that the Chief Magistrate ruling was the right step taken, positing that the adjournment will help the defendant who has pleased guilty, to get the right sentence.
Chief Barr. Onyeaghor also advised the youths to stay away from crime and engage themselves in agriculture and other meaningful ventures.
He urged members of the public to give useful information to the police and the Vigilante groups in Agbor.
