The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of Lawal Yetunde, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, by her boyfriend, whom she met on social media.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspect was traced and arrested at his residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin through the deceased’s phone records.

Initially, the suspect denied any involvement in Yetunde’s disappearance.

However, during a search of his house, he admitted that she had visited him and allegedly died from an asthma attack.

But the police made a shocking discovery, Yetunde’s dismembered body was found hidden in a bowl, along with equipment used in the act.

Yetunde was last seen on February 10, 2025, attending a naming ceremony before stepping aside to answer a call. She never returned.

Her family launched a search before reporting her missing at Oja-Oba Police Station, Ilorin, on Tuesday.

Using her phone records, police traced her last call to the suspect, identified as Abdulrahman, leading to his arrest and the grisly discovery.

Authorities are now investigating the motive behind the brutal killing, while the suspect remains in police custody.

The incident has sparked outrage, raising concerns over the dangers of online relationships and safety in digital interactions.
