Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has suspended the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Samson Osagie, and the Chairman of the State’s Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani, over alleged grave official and financial infractions.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, and released late Wednesday night.
According to the statement, the decision was made to allow a thorough investigation into the allegations, with both officials remaining suspended pending the outcome of the probe. The governor has also set up an Investigative Committee to examine the claims and make necessary recommendations.
Osagie Denies Allegations, Vows to Defend Himself
In response to his suspension, Rt. Hon. Samson Osagie denied any involvement in financial misconduct, insisting that he was neither engaged in any fraudulent dealings nor confronted with the allegations before the suspension.
In a statement personally signed by him, Osagie said: “I am not and was never involved in any financial dealing with anyone nor committed any financial infraction of any kind. I was also not confronted with the said allegations before my suspension was announced.”
He vowed to defend himself and clear his name, emphasizing his commitment to protecting his hard-earned reputation.
