… one indicted in drug baron bail scandal, another charged with theft
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed two Senior Special Assistants over serious corruption allegations, including one implicated in securing the bail of a notorious drug trafficker.
In a statement on Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, announced the removal of Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, following the findings of a Special Investigative Committee.
The committee’s report identified Sharada as the mastermind behind the controversial bail of convicted drug kingpin, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu, with his own testimony confirming his role.
Sharada has been directed to return all government property to the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs (REPA), Office of the SSG, by Monday, August 11, 2025, and barred from presenting himself as a public officer under the current administration.
Also dismissed was Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant, Cabinet Office, who was arrested in 2024 for rebagging palliative grains at a warehouse in Sharada.
Roba has since been arraigned on charges of theft and criminal conspiracy for alleged diversion of public assets.
The statement clarified that Hon. Musa Ado Tsamiya, Special Adviser on Drainages, was cleared of all allegations by an investigative committee and remains in office.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, warning public officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
He also cautioned the public against engaging the dismissed aides in any matter related to the Kano State Government.
The development follows a related scandal involving the former Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, who allegedly collected a $30,000 bribe from Danwawu in exchange for acting as surety.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that Namadi resigned after an investigative panel linked him to the bail-for-bribe scheme.
