The Delta State House of Assembly has indicted the Rector of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, over allegations of financial recklessness, misappropriation of funds, and gross disregard for the institution’s Governing Council and enabling laws.
This development followed the adoption of the findings from a parliamentary investigative committee, which probed the financial and administrative activities of the institution.
According to the Assembly’s resolution, the probe panel established multiple instances of administrative irregularities and unauthorized expenditures under the leadership of Professor Achuenu.
Lawmakers described the Rector’s actions as a “flagrant abuse of office” and “a violation of the rules guiding the management of public institutions.”
Consequently, the House upheld the six-month suspension earlier imposed on Professor Achuenu by the Governing Council of the polytechnic.
The Assembly also directed that the institution’s Bursar be suspended for six months for his complicity in the financial infractions.
Lawmakers emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the management of public funds, stressing that the state government will not tolerate impunity or disregard for institutional regulations.
The House further urged the Ministry of Higher Education to monitor the administration of the polytechnic during the suspension period to ensure continuity and strict adherence to due process.
This latest decision by the Delta Assembly underscores the state’s renewed commitment to fiscal discipline and good governance across its educational institutions.
At the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain the Rector’s reaction through a text message were unsuccessful.
