Trouble started on Sunday 14th February 2021, when the armed robbers stormed and opened fire on Insp. Nwangwang, who escorted his late boss’s wife to a new generation Church, Victorious Faith Fire Assembly, along Oviri-Ogor road, Ughelli axis of the state.
This is coming less than a month to the March 6, 2021 local government election in the state, as no fewer than three mobile policemen have been killed in Ughelli.
It was learnt that Insp. Nwangwang,
who escorted a Very Important Personality (VIP) name withheld), was allegedly on illegal duty when the gunmen who came in their numbers open fire on him, killing him on the spot.
A member of the Church who spoke on ground of anonymity, disclosed that the Church has since been thrown into pandemonium following the killing of the mobile police officer who escorted a member of the Church who lost her husband few month ago to the cold hand of death.
When contacted, the Delta State police image maker, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed it to our reporter adding that the police are investigating the circumstance that led to his gruesome killing just as she said that the police are on the trail of the assassinator to recover the missing rifle and bring the penetrator to book.
A senior police officer in ‘A’ Divisional Police Station, Ughelli, also confirmed the killing but claimed he is unaware of his movement just as he lamented bitterly on the unprofessional attitude of some police officer who indulge in illegal duty.
“A Nigeria police officer who is on duty must report to his boss about his movement either within or outside his jurisdiction, we got a call that a Mobile police was shot dead in one of the Pentecostal Church, Victorious Faith Fire Assembly along Oviri-Ogor road, Ughelli”.
The Commandant, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Comrade Monday Ohwesiri, said the recent killing of police officer and carting away of service guns in the council area is a sign of warning and a call to all secret operatives to wake up to their responsibilities.
As at the time of filing this report the remains of the slain Mobile police officer has been deposited at Ughelli Central Hospital morgue while investigation is ongoing.
