In a dramatic display of leadership and solidarity, HRM Asagba Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, the revered monarch of Asaba, stormed the Umuonaje Quarter in Idumugbe Village yesterday, in response to a disturbing police invasion that shook the community.
His arrival was met with both concern and gratitude, as the village, which had been rocked by violence and fear, sought his guidance and intervention.
The incident, which took place on February 26, 2025, involved a brutal police operation led by Mr. Emeka Ani, the commander of the Anticult Vigilante Group.
According to Onu Diokpa Idumugbe, Ogbueshi Jim Umunna, and other local leaders, the raid was not only an assault on the community’s peace but a devastating blow to its very fabric.
Properties were destroyed, and the attack resulted in the tragic death of a beloved community mother.
The ensuing chaos left residents in shock and fear, with many questioning the actions of the police and the supposed vigilante group.
Ogbueshi Jim Umunna, in an emotional address, expressed his frustration with the violence that had befallen the village.
He reported the widespread damage and the deep emotional toll it had on the people of Idumugbe.
With heartfelt sincerity, he told HRM Azinge that this was a blow not only to the community’s sense of safety but to the very spirit of Asaba, known for its peaceful and harmonious existence.
Upon arrival at the Ogwa Obi Ugbe, HRM Asagba Azinge listened intently to the grievances of the community leaders.
After reviewing a video of the brutal invasion, the monarch’s face clouded with sorrow and anger.
He condemned the violent actions that had taken place, making it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated in Asaba Kingdom.
The monarch reassured the community that those responsible for the assault would be brought to justice, voicing his deep disappointment that such a tragedy had occurred within his jurisdiction.
In his remarks, HRM Azinge revealed that he had personally contacted the Delta State Commissioner of Police, who, despite being out of town, confirmed that an investigation was underway.
The monarch emphasized that his commitment to the peace and security of Asaba was unwavering, and that the people of Idumugbe would not be left to suffer in silence.
“Asaba’s peaceful nature must not be taken for granted,” he stated firmly.
“If this kind of violence happens again, I will personally lead a delegation to the Police headquarters.”
The Asagba also tasked Obi Chief Nwanze Oduah, the chairman of the Asaba Police Relation Committee, with ensuring that the investigation was thorough and transparent.
Chief Oduah was instructed to follow up closely with the police and ensure that justice was not delayed or obstructed.
In his final words to the assembled community members, HRM Azinge reiterated his dedication to the people of Asaba, stressing that such incidents would not deter his efforts to protect and uphold the values of peace and order.
He expressed hope that the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice, and that the harmony of Idumugbe Village and the greater Asaba Kingdom would soon be restored.
The Asagba’s visit to Idumugbe serves as a strong reminder of his deep commitment to the welfare of his people and his active role in addressing security concerns throughout the region.
This intervention is just one in a long line of efforts by HRM Azinge to preserve peace and ensure that Asaba remains a safe and thriving community for all its residents.
As of press time, text message sent and call made to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, went unanswered.
