Gunmen believed to be hired assassins struck, killing Pastor Nicholas Omoraka, along Oviri-Ogor/Edjekota road in Ughelli north local government Area of Delta State.
It was learnt that the father escaped into the bush, after the hoodlums opened fire on the clergyman.
It was gathered that Omoraka was chased into the bush when the armed men attacked him and his son while returning from a journey.
The son, Christopher, was said to be in his late 20s died from bullet wounds he sustained when the gunmen stormed the father’s compound.
It was learnt that trouble started when Pastor Omoraka, was returning from a journey but on getting to the gate of his house, the armed men came from a nearby bush and shot at him.
“The man on sighting the suspected assassins shooting at him, sped off, ran into a bush and escaped from them but his son was not so lucky to escape the bullet.
“The son, who was at a friend’s house on hearing gun shots sound, jumped into the compound to make inquiry from the assailant and there he was shot on his stomach while they escaped into the forest without any hitches”.
According to sources, after killing the son, they went after the father who escaped into the bush in search of the clergy for along period but could not find the man.
The clergy son Christopher, was being rushed and to the hospital, when he died from the bullet wound.
One of the sources noted that the deceased who was temporarily staying with his father, had built a duplex of his own and was to moved into the new apartment the end of October before the untimely death.
Sources alleged that the local vigilantes group in the community could not be contacted during the attack as all efforts made to reach out to them was not successful.
At the time of filing this report, text message sent to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, was not answered.
