Twenty twenty-three, is just around the corner for our politicians to come jostling again for our votes, whether it counts or not is a different ball game but they must play to the gallery for us to see.
Delta being a peculiar state with five different ethnic nationalities is a complex terrain whose mathematical matrix is a jigsaw puzzle wrapped in an enigma.
That the 2023 gubernatorial race is staring us in the face is a truism and majority of the gladiators are yet to enter into the boxing ring with bold face either for reasons of lack of confidence or waiting to be anointed by a supposed political godfather and or even the fear of Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies coming after them.
We have followed the political train since 2019 in the state and still wondering why of all the pseudo aspirants in the race to Dennis Osadebe House only one man has chested out openly till date and challenging all other intending aspirants to the playing field. Yet what we have seen so far are people hiding under the smokescreen of being under pressure from one group or the other to come out and vie for the coveted position of taking over from our out-going hard working governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
That man is no other than our effervescent vibrant industrialist, Criminologist, lawyer, employer of labour and internationally acclaimed business mogul, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi of the only viable and biggest commercial Robson Plaza in Warri and another at the PTI junction in Uvwie Local government area of the state.
This man needs no further introduction to Deltans. His name has virtually become a household word except for the pretenders, who like the ostrich would bury its head in the sand thinking he is hiding when in fact all its body is in the open for all to see.
He has jump into the political field challenging everyone and anyone who cares to listen to come dare him this time around having paid his rightful dues as a staunch and loyal PDP party man in the state since the coming of this democratic era till date.
His credentials are so intimidating just as he is blemish free from any wrong doings that would warrant him being accused of embezzlement of any fund, be it public, community even contract fund. This perhaps accounts for why his detractors have chosen the ignoble path of irresponsible blackmail approach to want to, unsuccessfully so far, tarnish his hard earned reputation.
Come to think of it, Gbagi as a business mogul has companies that has provided employment to thousands of Nigerians across the country. Let all those who are maligning him point out their businesses and its location to Nigerians or even Detans.
Let them also, more importantly, reveal their sources of income from whence they acquired their wealth from which they want to deplore to run their electioneering campaign.
Even then, let them tell us or show us their level of contribution to the growth of Delta, their individual communities and Nigeria in general before today.
One can boldly say without equivocation that all those hiding behind one faceless group or the other claiming to be under pressure to contest the governorship race are people of questionable sources of income that has stolen government money and want to use the same fund to contest for the governorship seat of Delta. It is open knowledge that some of these characters are still in the service of the state government.
Some built their first homes only when they became appointed political government officials and are still stealing more funds to be able to contest for the race come 2023.
And this is where they will encounter the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies who would surely grill them and take them to the cleaners.
The Chief Gbagi we know has all their dossiers and is ready and very willing to avail the EFCC with their dubious track records. This is the more reasons they want Gbagi out of the race by hook or crook.
All things being equal, how the PDP hierarchy play the primaries game will to a very large extent.
