Some parents have called on the Lagos state government to reopen Dowen College having declared the accused students and staff non-complicity in the death of the 12-year-old pupil, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr.

The parents said that there is no point closing down the school continuously since investigation from both the police and the government has exonerated the school.

They explained that the reopening is crucial as other students of the school are at home doing nothing, coupled with the fact that there are no online classes for the students.

A parent, Mrs. Tosin Tabade, said that there is no point closing down the school since it has been cleared by the government and the Police.

Mrs Tosin emphasized that the students are at the receiving end as their colleagues in other schools have gone ahead of them thereby thwarting the academic calendar.

She questioned what the rest of the students in the college would be doing while staying at home.

Another parent, Tunde Ayoleke described the continuous closure of the school and not allowing the students to return to their classes after the investigations as meaningless and unhelpful of the students’ educational careers.

While paying condolences to the Oromoni’s family, Ayoleke noted that the academic lives of other students should also be prioritized.

He said the students have not been in class for sometime now and doubted if they had had their first term examinations.

Also, Mrs. Busayo Tewogbade described the death of the deceased as unfortunate but stated that the government should not allow other students to suffer setbacks in their studies.

Mrs. Busayo noted that the government should consider the kind of engagement of other students in the midst of the issue.

She stated that the government should critically assess the situation to see the need for the reopening of the school especially as the academic lives of other students are at stake.
