Throwback Thursday. This picture is a very interesting one.
It is a picture that represents the very tough experiences I had in the streets of Lagos.
It was taken at a Car Wash in 2009. I had just left home a few months before that day to search for any kind of job to do.
In my search for any kind of job, I got a job at a Car Wash at Agege Pen Cinema.
The fee was Three Hundred 9 naira per Car and Five Hundred Naira for Jeep.
One Hundred, or Two Hundred Naira to me, and Two Hundred, or Three Hundred Naira to the Car Wash Management for the washing of a Car or Jeep.
To get One Thousand Naira, I would have to wash between Five to Ten Cars.
The job came with a whole lot of hazards. Foot infections, injuries to the hands and constant malaria occasioned by prolonged exposure to sunlight and roadside food.
And because the pay was not sufficient for my personal expenses, going home to Ikorodu everyday was not part of my agenda. The Car wash was my House from Monday to Saturday and sometimes I would even stay through Sunday just to make extra money on Sunday because the Car Wash Management gave those who worked on Sundays the privilege of getting One Hundred and Fifty Naira instead of One Hundred Naira per vehicle.
See, I have paid my dues. I paid them early enough. So, if you don’t know the story, don’t be the judge.
If God had no purpose for my life, I would have died long time ago.
This story is part of why my entire life is now being governed by contentment. I may not be rich in the way the World see a Rich Man, but trust me, a whole lot has changed.
Sometimes when I look at the standard of life I am living in this same Lagos, even though I am yet to get to where I really want to be, when I look at where I am coming from, I tell myself “I am a King in my lane”.
I MADE IT!!! Not everybody did. But I made it.
Be inspired and keep your head up.
