Hoodlums Rob Patients, Caregivers, Health Workers In Bayelsa Hospital

Daredevil bandits attacked Diete Koiki Memorial Hospital in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital and carted away valuables and undisclosed sums of money believed to be in millions.

The ugly incident occurred around 3:00am, in the wee hours of on Tuesday August 31st 2021.

It was gathered that the robbers carted away valuables belonging to patients on admission and doctors on call.

It was also gathered that the hoodlums scaled the fence to gain access into the premises of the hospital.

According to Dr. Okeleghel Awudumapu, who narrated his ordeal, the two-man gang took him unawares while returning from his call room.

Awudumapu said his belongings and that of patients from the labor ward and their family members were all carted away.

Reacting to the incident, the Medical Director, Dr. Emmanuel Fetepigi, who expressed sadness, described the act as barbaric.

Dr. Fetepigi said management will collaborate with the Ministry of Health to ensure that measures are put in place to forestall future occurrences.

Meanwhile, the security man at the hospital Mr. James Benini, stated that it was the second time they have had burglars on the premises as a generator battery had been stolen before.
