In a momentous ceremony filled with faith, commitment, and tradition, Comrade Bolum Marthins Nwachukwu and other devoted members of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM) have been formally admitted and invested into the prestigious Third Degree of knighthood.

The event took place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

This significant milestone marks years of unwavering service, spiritual growth, and dedication to the Catholic Church.

The day began with the induction of the First Degree knights, initiating them into a lifelong journey of service and devotion.

The morning session witnessed these new knights taking their solemn vows, committing themselves to upholding the values of the Catholic faith.

However, the true highlight of the day came in the afternoon, when seasoned knights who had faithfully served for years were admitted into the Third Degree, a rank reserved for those who have demonstrated deep commitment to the Church and its mission.

For knights like Comrade Bolum Marthins Nwachukwu, this investiture is a testimony to years of unwavering faith.

Having progressed from the First Degree through the Second Degree over a period of seven years, he now proudly stands as a Third-Degree Knight, ready to embrace greater responsibilities in service to God and humanity.

Reflecting on his journey, he shared:

“Being a knight is a rewarding experience. It teaches us to live above the ordinary, to be a beacon of light, and to dedicate our lives to the service of God and the Church. It is not just a title; it is a call to action.”

Knights of St. Mulumba: A Pillar of Strength for the Church

The Knights of St. Mulumba have long been instrumental in supporting the Church in various capacities.

From advocating for religious rights at the national level to building churches, chapels, and supporting clergy, their contributions remain immeasurable.

“Many do not realize the role we play in shaping policies that protect the Church.

“At times, we intervene in critical legislative matters to ensure the faith remains safeguarded. We serve, we defend, and we stand firm in our commitment to God.”

Speaking further, he said: “They are first degree, their induction was done this morning, theirs is initiation then they were admitted and invested this morning.

“So, what we have come for this afternoon is the admission and investiture of the third degree, those who are getting old in it.

“Yes, I am being invested today, as a third degree Knight, I have gone through the first degree, I havegone through the second degree, after five years, seven years and now third degree, the last is the fourth degree.

“My experience as a knight is a rewarding one. It’s good. It’s good to serve God. It’s good to participate in activity of the church,
to try to live a life above the sea level, to try to be a beacon of light to the people.

“That is what it takes to be a knight.
When we hear knight, there are some who make the joke or say darkness.

“No, knight is a soldier of Christ, soldier of the church. We defend the church. We use everything God has given us to defend the church, to fight for the church.

“You may not know, the Knights of St. Molumba have played a very big role in development of this country.

“There are issues that come up at the National Assembly, we go behind the scene to make sure we protect the church. There was a time they were thinking of churches paying tax, the Catholic Church.

“The Knights made a representation,.went to the National Assembly and brought it to a halt. Most of the issues you see that come up against Christianity, the Knights, we don’t walk away, we walk behind the scene.

“We have our members everywhere. If it means going to the presidency, we can get there. If it means getting to the governor, we can get there, to make sure that the people get a fair deal, to make sure that the Christians practice their faith without hindrance. Our job is to make sure that the church renders service to humanity.

He advised Catholic faithful to “Continue to do what you’re doing, encourage your friends to come and join you in this work of
service, it’s all service, work of service.

“And i must tell you, there’s a secret when you work in people’s farm, God works in your own farm, when you serve God, with all you have, God continues to provide for you.

“So, we should not be afraid to serve God through the people, people should not be afraid to elevate the poor, people should not be afraid to fight for the church, for their faith because God is not sleeping, God, also works for you.

“I have enjoyed God’s protection as a union member and I believe it’s because of my activities as a knight that make God picks special interest in me.

“You know as TUC Chairman Delta State, as chairman of Association of Senior Civil Servants Delta state, I had some turbulent periods, now the National Auditor of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, it is God.

“All I did was to go to God i’m a knight i’m serving you take charge and God took charge. I must tell you, the secret of my success today is in God, so this is what I do this is my way of serving God by being a knight of the church.

Also, Sir Moses Iyasere, Metropolitan Grand Knight of the Metropolitan Council, who spoke on the investiture, emphasized the significance of knighthood in the Catholic Church.

“A knight is a soldier of Christ, a defender of the Church. We do not walk away from challenges; we stand behind the scenes, ensuring that Christianity is upheld and that the Church continues its mission to serve humanity.” – Sir Moses Iyasere

A Journey of Commitment and Growth

Hear him: “Today, this weekend has been activity packed friday yesterday we started with our metropolitan council meeting, we started by 2:00pm ended activities at about 8:00pm then 7:00am this morning, we came to invest, to admit new brothers into the order.

“Now, they did their exams and passed it so we are now admitting them into the third degree category this afternoon.

“First, you must have been a knight
of the knights of Saint Molumba, you spend two years three years now as a first degree then you spend another seven years in second degree.

“For you to come to second degree, you do exam, you pass you are invested you spent seven years there so these people here now they have spent seven years to do the exam now to go to third degree and they have passed now try to admit them into the third degree.

“The importance of knighthood in the Catholic faith, we are like soldiers of the church. We are here to serve the church.

“We are here to work with our parish priest. We are here to work with our bishop. We are here to work with ourselves brothers.

“We are here to do charity for the church and that is why we help the priest, we help the bishop, we help ourselves.

“Any activity that the church is doing, we take part in it. Any contribution that they want us to make, we make it out of our own volution. We stand in it, put ourselves out. My lord, my priest, we want to help and play our part.

“If you listen all over the country, there are a lot of things that we do. Go to Abuja University, we built a chapel.

“In all these areas, Knights of Saint Molumba, have built churches, we help priests, we sponsor them, we pay medical bills, we do so many other things for priests, for ourselves, and so many other members of the society.

“We pay school fees for our brothers and sisters, their children, we pay medical bills. These are the things that we do for the church, we do for ourselves.

“Beyond advocacy, the knights are known for their charitable works. They sponsor seminarians, assist the less privileged, cover medical bills, and contribute to the well-being of parish communities. Their dedication is evident in every facet of the Church’s mission”.

An Open Call to Service

For practicing Catholics, the Knights of St. Mulumba offer a path of profound service and spiritual fulfillment.

As Sir Kingsley Olomokoro affirmed, “Every devout Catholic should aspire to knighthood. It is a noble path of service, commitment, and faith. Among the various Catholic knighthoods, KSM stands out as a beacon of excellence.

“Well, any good practicing Catholic, we always aspire to become a knight of the Catholic faith in the Catholic Church, we have various nights. The knight of St. Molumba, KSJ, and others that you are free to choose anyone you want to belong to but Y always advise and encourage practicing Catholic that they should go for KSM. KSM is where to be in the Catholic Church”.

Their journey does not end here—the Fourth Degree awaits, the pinnacle of knighthood, where faith and leadership merge in the ultimate service to the Church.

The investiture of the Third-Degree Knights is more than just a ritual; it is a celebration of unwavering faith, commitment, and service.

As the Knights of St. Mulumba continue their noble mission, they reaffirm their role as soldiers of Christ, defenders of the Church, and beacons of hope in a world that desperately needs light.

For those inspired by this journey, the call remains open, join the Knights, serve with honor, and let your faith lead the way.

Rev. Father Christian Chukwudi Odiaka, in his sermon, urged them to embrace the humility and innocence of little children in order to draw closer to Jesus Christ.

“First, Jesus expect us to be like little children to practice that child-like form of spirituality.

“The spirituality that helps us to approach Jesus like little children.

“For those who were commissioned today, I also made them to understand that, there is a call as Knights and Ladies of the Church, it is call to service and that was the reason I told them that they must constantly see themselves as ambassadors of Christ.

“Soldiers of Christ, representatives of Jesus Christ. People who will lead by example”, he said.
