Delta State governor’s aide on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, Rex Anighoro, has called on the state government to immediately declare a state of emergency on drainages constructed by the Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration.

He made the assertion on Wednesday 10th February 2021, when the State Civil Society Action Team visited Aniocha north and south local government areas on a 10-day monitoring and evaluation of road projects constructed by this administration since 2015.

Hear him: “In my personal capacity and without prejudice to the opinion and what the position of the Civil Society Community would be, I observed that most of the drainages of the roads already constructed are in a sorry state.

“The people in our communities do not seem to care, they do not see themselves as owners of the projects, they turn the drainages into refuge dumps and comfortably sit and do businesses on top of them. This is so terrible!

“From Ogwash- Uku, Isele – Uku, Idumuje nor and more the story is sad. I think A STATE OF EMERGENCY NEEDS TO BE DECLARED ON THE STATE OF OUR DRAINAGES. Civil Society must begin serious advocacy and enlightenment campaign against the misuse of our drainages. IT SHOULD START NOW!

“The Ministries of Works, Health and Environment must work together with my office and the Civil Society Community to end this Civic irresponsibility. The Local Government Council Chairmen who would emerge after Saturday 6th of March, 2021 must be tasked to do the right things for our people. OUR DRAINAGES MUST BE CLEANED UP IMMEDIATELY!

“It was great meeting and having conversation with different people, I was glad that Comrade Victor Ojieh aka Wong box accepted my invitation to join in to monitor the roads in his Local Government Area, many thanks to him for the honor even at a short notice.

“Meeting with senior citizens was another exciting part of this engagement, it was so nice visiting Hon. Jerry Ossai at Iseagwu. I was so inspiring, it was time out with nature.

“Indeed this trip was so enriching, you never may know how beautiful Delta is and how much Okowa has done in the rural areas, connecting communities that previously were cut off I think the Ministry of Information should do much more here they can engage my office to join help in creative advocacy, it will cost them nothing to do so”, promising to continue tomorrow as the team would visit Ndokwa east, west and Ukwuani.
