Father of an 11 months old boy, Mr. Affix Innocent, has blamed the death of his son, master Wealth Affix Ojichukwuburuzor, on negligence by the resident doctor and the management of Umunede General Hospital, Ika north east local government area of Delta State.

Mr. Innocent, disclosed that his son was stooling and no appetite to eat well in order for his system to combat the sickness before he was rushed to the hospital.

He argued that if someone is running temperature and throwing up, “the person will be lossing blood, the person will be restless, the person will be weak and the person will be white”.

According to him, “On that note such a person will need drip mixed with other injections to regain strength and heal fast.

“The prescriptions before admitting them was oral drip which was not effective and I insisted on admitting them and fixing drip for quick recovery”.

He disclosed that the late son who was admitted on 18th February 2022, died on 19th February 2022, after all efforts to save the life of the baby who was left with eight days to complete a year, died even when he made the wife to pay for the drip.

It is the health policy of the state government for children under the ages of 0-5 years to get free medical treatment in any government hospital across the state.

The father said: “treatment of infants 5 years below in Delta State hospital is free but I made my wife to buy the Drip for them to administer it as quick as possible.

“Which the doctor did after not finding the vein in the hand and later find it in the head and administer it to the Child, before it fell off.

“Then all effort to make the resident doctor re-administer the drip was to no avail, saying he can’t undergo such stress again, that they should continue with the oral drip and that was before I join them in the hospital

“I looked for that resident doctor to no avail rather he closed from work lucked his office and closed for the day.

The bereaved father claimed: “It was in my present that my wife prepared the oral drip and we started administering it but it was not effective to preserve the child till the next day, and that led to the death of my child”.

Efforts to get reaction of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye, proved abortive.

  1. General hospital staffs in most cases re doing more harm than good to patients. How can someone who’s paid for inconveniences says he cannot undergo the same inconveniences he’s being paid for and the refusal led to the death of a future president, governor, ceo, pilot etc. Base on this news, hence, that doctor should be relieved of his duties since he can’t do the work he’s being paid for. In Ikorodu Lagos State this was the same experience I had when my elder brother was admitted in their emergency ward. I have to discharge him without looking back and today he’s beautifully strong and fine but was looking so sick in there. Delta State commissioner for health MUST not swipe this case under the carpet because, the spirit of that boy will hunt all of them if not treated right.
