… Says He Was A Political Colossus
Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, has condoled with the family of late former Acting governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Pastor Prince Sam Obi.
Comrade Ikeogwu, who lamented the brief life of the former Acting governor, noted that he left his footprint on th sand of time.
Hear him: “It is hard to believe, but the reality is that you are gone. Though your stay on earth was very brief, you were able to make your mark indelibly on the sand of times.
“So many of us grew up in your hands. You were a mentor and teacher to thousands cutting across ethnic and tribal divide. Your political sagacity and audacious courage saw you to the pinnacle of politics in our dear state.
“From history, you remain the only politician in Delta State that has occupied all the elective positions in our turbulent political climate.
“From councillor, you rose to become Ika North East Local Government Chairman, held other appointments where you made your marks.
“Prominent amongst them, was when you were made the Chairman, Board of Directors of Delta Printing and Publishing Company (DPPCL). It is on record that no one else has been able to beat your record as the Chairman of the Board since the creation of the agency.
“Propelled by the desire to position your community on the map of Delta State politics, you took a shot at the State House of Assembly where you meritoriously represented the good people of Ika North East. Indeed, you were a voice in your 12 years sojourn in the Delta State Stat House of Assembly.
“Fortune smiled on you when you were made the Speaker of the House and before we could say Jack Robinson, you were made the Acting Governor of Delta State. You even dared to be Governor of Delta State, my ever daring leader.
“You taught us to hit it hard that it is either you break it or bend it. You were a ladder to so many of us and I am proud to be associated with you. My Mum, would ask, “HOW IS SAM YOUR FATHER.”
“As an Apostle of Prince Sam Obi, you taught me courage, boldness, outspokenness, fearlessness and the rudiments of politics. Truely, you were an inspiration. You scolded me when the need arises and tutored me to know that it can never be bed of roses all the time.
“One history I can never forget in a hurry, was a meeting held on December 29, 2003, at your residence in Efeizomor Street, Boji Boji Owa, where you bitterly made me to understand in a hard way that I SHOULD NOT .RELY ON MAN FOR MY PROMOTION BUT TO ALWAYS HOLD ON TO GOD.
“I must say categorically that the legacies you left behind will speak even in hundreds of years to come. Some will remember you for your good deeds while some will say otherwise.
“But one thing is certain, you touched lives and I am one of them. One thing is sure, Prince Sam Obi political students will surely keep your flag flying.
“Your Excellency, the news of your death came as a rude shock. However, we can’t question God for there is a day to be born and a day to die. You came, you saw and you conquered”, he added.
