A statement on Monday 15th February 2021, signed and made available to journalists by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, said: “Okonjo-Iweala, an illustrious Deltan from Ogwashi-Uku, was a two-time Minister of Finance, who led Nigeria’s economy to exit foreign debt obligations during her first term under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The governor said that he was elated to hear of the successful emergence of Okonjo-Iweala as WTO boss after a very highly competitive and protracted process.
Similarly, the Edo State governor, Obaseki wrote on his Facebook page, “I felicitate with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her emergence as the first African and first female DG of the World Trade Organization.
“She is a fine economist, development expert and has spearheaded several World Bank initiatives as a former MD, Operations. She possesses the skills and experience for this elevated role”.
