Leading governorship aspirant in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has said that if elected governor of the state, his plan for Delta Industrial Development goal is to kick start Delta State Industrial Revolution come 2023.
Our overall strategy is to design the Delta Industrial Development Master Plan (DIDMP) that shall form the program of the Delta State Government of Industrial Development that shall be set up in 2023, if elected by the good people of Delta State.
The primary objective of the Delta State Government of Industrial Development, to be set up come 2023 is to diversify the economy of Delta State. To this end, we plan to create the Ministry of Trade Investments and Industrial Development that willl be responsible for:
– Sapele Industrial City FTZ,
– Asaba Industrial City FTZ,
– Escravos Industrial City FTZ,
– Forcados Industrial City FTZ,
– Oboro Industrial City FTZ.
– Delta Agriculture Development Corporation,
– Warri Industrial Park, Ejeba,
– Delta State Investments Development Agency (DIDA).
– Delta State EXIM Finance Agency.
– Delta Construction Corporation (DCP),
– Delta Petroleum Corporation (DPC)
– Delta Fishing Corporation (DFC).
Overall strategy is for the Government of Delta State come 2023, through the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Industrial Development to be created to master plan and develop these industrial Cities/parks and Free Trade Zone in the identified strategic geography and geology with an objective to attract the needed private investors to set up their companies, plants and businesses. The Ministry shall carry out the branding and marketing of the investments potentials of Delta State (DELTA STATE BRAND) to the Global Investments Community as most countries and investors do not even know the industrial, manufacturing, agriculture, marine & water resources, solid minerals, energy & power, geographical, geological, environmental, tourism and hospitality investments potentials and opportunities in Delta State. With this strategy, we have been able to forecast that we could attract about 22,000 companies to Delta State in 8 years.
To share some insight of the analysis, our studies have shown that so many people think that the insecurity was why so many companies closed down in Delta State or relocated to Rivers State or Lagos State but that was not just the only reasons. The fact is that there is no Safe Haven Free Trade Zone in Delta State created by Government to provide both security cover and financial incentives for the international companies operating in Delta State at the peak of crisis and insecurities in Warri and other parts of Delta State. Port Harcourt/Rivers State had Crisis as well but they have the Onne Free Trade Zone where most of the companies are located. There was also insecurities in Lagos as well but they have several Safe Haven Free Trade Zone – Lekki Free Trade Zone, LADOL, Eko Atlantic City, Badagry Deep Sea Port, Several Industrial Estates which provide the needed secured boundary limits and financial incentives for the multinational companies to strive.
If Onne Free Trade Zone that is just oil and gas can host about 3000 companies, then Sapele Industrial City Free Trade Zone that is both oil & gas and manufacturing can host up to 5000 companies. Also Asaba Industrial City Free Trade Zone can host another 5000 Companies and Ogidigbe EPZ 3000 companies and Burutu Deep Sea Port another 3000 companies. The summary, the #Delta Industrial Revolution Revolution could attract up to 22,000 companies to Delta State within 10 years.
Imagine with 22,000 companies operating in Delta State within the areas of oil and gas, energy & Power, manufacturing, Maritime, telecommunications, healthcare, Banking, Insurance, Hospitality etc, then the young men and women of Delta State shall have jobs and this shall improve the security situation of Delta State. With the assumption of average staff strength of 500 persons for each of the company, we would have created more than a million direct and sustainable jobs in Delta State. With an direct and indirect job ration of 1:5, we would have created an indirect jobs of 5 million and lifted more than 6 million people from poverty in Delta State.
With the above strategy, there shall be business opportunities for all Deltans to make wealth, there shall be potentials for sustainable health care, there shall be patronage of the schools of learning by the industries and thereby improving on the standard and quality of our education. This is the idea driving the #Kenneth Gbagi Plan for Delta Industrial Development. This is the idea in which we plan to make Delta State Great for the benefits of all tribes and people. It is together we can can achieve the vision of #Delta Industrial Revolution.
