Rotary Gives Zero Percent Interest Loan To 20 Petty Traders

Rotary club of Asaba Metropolitan has empowered 20 petty traders with zero percent interest loan to enable them grow their businesses.

The District Governor (DG), in charge of District 9141, Rotarian Virginia Major (MD), charged the beneficiaries to invest the money into their businesses instead of engaging in frivolities.She gave the charge at the Micro Credit Women Empowerment Programme held in Asaba.


“These men and women you are seeing here, use their monies for charity work. The only thing you can do for them is by investing the money you will be given today into your businesses.”Don’t use the profit for frivolity. When the profit comes, invest it back to the business you are doing, if the business grows, it will be to your advantage”, she said.In his welcome address, Assistant Governor in charge of Zone 12, Rotarian Jonathan Olisedeme, thanked the District Governor for finding time to be with them just as he charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the empowerment.


Also speaking, President of the Club, Rotarian Patricia Ojebor, disclosed that the programme is an annual event, “What we do is that we go round to pick some petty traders that really needs assistance  and we talk to them if they will be able to return money given to them so they can make use of it to better their lives.”Once they give their acceptance, we take their names and we give them but they don’t pay interest. What we do, it is a one year programme, by next year, we expect them to return it with no interest”, she insisted.A beneficiary, Mrs. Joan Chiwendu, who sells plantain and beans, appreciated the Club for coming to her assistance, promising to invest the money into the business for better output.


Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Agnes, prayed God to bless members of Rotary Club of Asaba Metropolitan, for the financial assistance given to them.A woman who was not part of the original plans was shortlisted when she stormed the venue of the event and pleaded to be empowered.
