The Organization for the Advancement of Anioma Culture (OFAAC), the umbrella body for the promotion of Anioma heritage, has officially announced the 19th edition of the Anioma Cultural Festival.
The festival is set to take place on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Oshimili South Local Government Arcade in Asaba, Delta State.
During a press briefing in Asaba, OFAAC President, Arc. Kester Ifeadi, reflected on the cancellation of the 2024 edition due to the passing of key figures, including the former Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Chike Edozien, and the Omu Anioma/Omu Okpanam, Obi Martha Dunkwu, who served as the festival’s Patron and Matron, respectively.
He also paid tribute to other founding members of the organization.
Despite past setbacks, Ifeadi expressed confidence that the upcoming festival, organized in collaboration with Anioma Traditional Rulers—will be one of the most remarkable cultural showcases to date.
Highlights of Ifeadi’s Address
Welcoming the media, stakeholders, and traditional rulers, Ifeadi emphasized the festival’s role in uniting Anioma communities, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting economic empowerment.
He acknowledged the strides OFAAC has made over the years, including the popularization of traditional Anioma attire, dance, and musical instruments, particularly the iconic flute (Akpele).
He also highlighted OFAAC’s ongoing efforts to support members through initiatives such as a micro-credit scheme, a death insurance policy, and other cultural promotion programs sustained over the past 22 years.
“Anioma Cultural Festival is a unifying event where people from Ika, Ndokwa, Aniocha, Oshimili, and Ukwuani come together to celebrate our heritage,” Ifeadi stated.
“Our festival has fostered harmony among various cultures in Delta State, attracting notable Paramount Rulers from beyond Anioma, such as the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and Pere Akugbene Mien.”
He further assured attendees of an exciting lineup, including cultural displays, traditional cuisine, and competitive events with prizes. Expressing gratitude to past and present sponsors,
Ifeadi acknowledged the support of Grand Oak Distillers (makers of Seaman’s Aromatic Schnapps), MTN, Zenith Bank, and the Delta State Government.
“We are back with renewed energy and commitment. This year’s Anioma Cultural Festival promises to be one of the best editions yet, and we invite everyone to be part of it,” he concluded.
The Anioma Cultural Festival remains a significant event that strengthens the region’s cultural identity and heritage, ensuring that traditions are passed on to future generations.
