Gully Erosion Threatens Delta Community

The people of Amachai quarters of Okpanam Community, Oshimili north local government area of Delta State maybe totally cut off from the rest of community if nothing is done to the address the gully erosion presently threatening their existence.

It was a terrible site on Friday July 29th when it rained cat and dog as rhe Igwogwo erosion site carved in, almost tearing the road into two parts.

The Igwogwo erosion site is a deep pit with spring water is said to be the source of Anwai River.

The erosion site has successfully cut off the link road from Okpanam through Amachai quarters to Akwukwu-Igbo, the administrative headquarter of Oshimili north local government area of the state.

Residents of the area said in the next few days unless urgent steps are taken, it would cut off the alternative road and possibly swallow some structures.

They prayed that no life would lost if it degenerate to that extent, “Let us keep hoping that the structures around the site would be saved. By His grace, no life will be lost”, they said.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Environment,  Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu, has visited the Igwogwo erosion site, Okpanam Community. 

He assured them that the state government would urgently swing into action to avert death and destruction of properties.
