Caregivers, parents and guardians have been warned to take good care of those particularly orphans and less privilege children whose parents are poor that are under their roof.

Wife of the Delta State governor, Dame Edith Okowa, gave the charge on Monday November 8th 2021, during this year’s World Orphan Day Celebration organized by the O5 Initiative in Government House, Asaba.

According to her, “there are so many children that have been orphaned right from birth but have made wave in the society.

“Those of us that have been involved in Gender Based Violence, we have have seen things that our mouths cannot say. How have we been treating the maids in our homes, the driver who is attached to you, he might not be an orphan but he is just poor that is why he is in your home.

“Can people directly identify your children and your housemaids when your children are gathered? If that is the story in your home, today is the day to think, God is watching.

“If you have been treating the people in your home any how and treating your children as if they are eggs that could be broken, be warned, God does not play with the poor.

“Every child that comes into the planet earth is owned by God, not you. That you delivered a child, you are only privileged to be an instrument that the Lord used. So treat every child that comes across you as if they came from your womb.

“Year in, year out, we gather in different platforms to discuss the well being of Orphaned Children, can we really say there is a difference? If there is a difference, how come the stories we hear or read everyday are so disheartening?

“The news of how a supposed mother places a hot iron on the laps of a little orphan because of an error committed. There are measures we cannot take against our own children. Why then do we treat these Orphans without love? Be reminded that they are God’s gift to mankind.

She noted that orphaned children grow and make progress in different life’s endeavours. So many successful orphans are celebrated around the world because kind-hearted individuals made it possible. Some of us can testify.

“The care of Orphans is of importance to us in the O5 Initiative as enshrined in the word of God. For the past six years, the O5 team have worked with Care Givers in registered Orphanages across the state. Despite the COVID 19 Pandemic we have not stopped attending regularly to the needs of our Children”.

She disclosed that the O5 Initiative, made provision for 50 registered Orphanages and four adopted families including the Quintuplet (five girls), stressing that is in fulfilment of “our mission to feed the hungry and provide shelter for the homeless”.

The governor’s wife appreciated care givers for their consistent love and care for “my Children” In the face of the uncertainty of the future, just as she urged them to make the word of God their standard for the upbringing of the children, saying “As you sincerely do this, your labour of Love will be rewarded in due season”.

She equally thanked God for providing the resources through the O5 Initiative partners, individuals and corporate organizations; “thank you for supporting the O5 Vision. I want to specially recognize Zenith bank for their attention to selected orphanages, every year, God bless you”.

Food items were distributed to caregivers from various orphanages.
