As the Ika North East Local Government Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ward 5 Chapter, Owanta continues to experience and suffer the lopsided leadership style of a leader in the Ward and Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, many aggrieved members of the Ward, have described as shambolic the party’s Congress that was held in the Ward, on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
They revealed to journalists how the Congress was manipulated to suit the script of the embattled Kingsley Emu who during the last local government election was molested in his ward and before now had unsettled party issues with some aggrieved PDP stakeholders in the Ward.
According to most of the aggrieved PDP leaders , “The Congress which produced Mr Solomon Okpali as Chairman, PDP, Ward 5 and other executive members of the Ward was seriously manipulated by Emu for his own gain and gratification.
“Many important leaders in our Ward were caught off from the Congress. They were denied participation through already prepared plan to hijack the Congress.
They told our reporter that Kingsley Emu asked his unpopular kitchen cabinet members not to forward the message of the Ward congress to most members as they spread the message that him Kingsley Emu has already submitted the names of those he wants to be in the ward EXCO to the party LGA chairman Chuks Agboma who he claims to be his boy and who will send officials of the LGA of the Ward congress to just announce those names as the elected representatives of Owanta ward 5.
“Truly to this information while the state monthly sanitation exercise was going on Kingsley Emu directed some few persons to gather and hold a shambolic meeting.
“In this meeting those who received their secret messages gathered and lined up behind one Solomon Ukpali from Owanta ALIOSIMI as the chosen ward chairman while the names of the so-called other ward executives were called up from a text message Kingsley Emu sent to them even when those people were not present to be voted for and were not voted for.
“Owanta ward 5 is made up of 3 quarters Okue, Edie and Osimi, but Kingsley Emu has been relegating and marginalizing the other 2 quarters as Osimi where he is from has the SSG, Ward party Chairman, Ward youth leader, Ward financial secretary, 2 SA’s out of the only 4 in the ward and the ward Counselor leaving the other 2 quarters with nothing.
While calling for the cancellation of the Congress so as to allow room for full participation, they decried the continued nonchalant and unrepentant attitude of Emu towards the growth of PDP in the Ward.
They called on the PDP leadership in Ika North East to urgently address the lingering crises in Ward 5, Owanta as it may soon pave way for mass defection from Kingsley Emu’s adamant PDP to other vibrant and listening political parties in the ward.
At press time, text message sent to his cellphone to get his side of the story was ignored.
