Delta Speaker Expresses Support For Oborevwori’s Administration

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor has expressed the full support of the House for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration and its efforts to address Delta’s pressing challenges.

The Speaker flanked by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo and other Principal Officers, expressed the support on Wednesday September 25, 2024, when members of Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba, the State capital.

They were led by Kenneth Orusi, the Chapel Chairman on the courtesy held at the Assembly Complex along Okpanam Road.

The Speaker spoke on the backdrop of giving legislative backing to the the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development created by the State governor just as he expressed excitement over the new directorate, “that Directorate, as it pleases you, it pleased me as well because I am from the Riverine.

“I will do everything within my powers to making sure that we give the needed support to the governor to seeing that there is a legislative backing to that effect by the grace of God to see that that ministry stands the test of time.

“Presently, it is a Directorate but we will make sure we do the best that we can do in supporting the governor to making sure that it stands the test to time”.

Speaking on the Anti-grazing Bill, he assured Deltans that the Committee on Compliance headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Akpowowo, was doing everything possible for cattle rearers to stay within the confine of the law.

“In the Delta State House of Assembly, we have a Committee on Compliance and is headed by the Deputy Speaker.

“The Deputy Speaker, is doing a whole lot to see that some of these laws are implemented by the executive and we will continue to strengthen him and the Committee to making sure that they reach out to ministries, government agencies that are supposed to implement these laws”.

He reiterated the the Deputy Speaker and his team are working earnestly to making sure that these laws are implemented.

On the Koka Junction flyover besieged by some homeless people, he said that the House would partner with the Executive arm of government to see that they are effective in the discharge of their responsibilities to Deltans

“Of course, I know that the Secretary to the State Government, they are doing something about that. We will continue to work with them to see that they give the best to Deltans.

“That place is the entrance to Asaba for those who are coming in from different directions. So, there is need for it to be given a face-lift so that when people are coming into Asaba, they will know that Asaba, is one of tue best emerging cities in the country.

“We will continue to work with the Executive to making sure that we do the best for our people”, he reassured.

Earlier, chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Orusi, on behalf of members, congratulated the Speaker for his leadership qualities and for having one of the most peaceful and effective legislature across Nigeria in the past one year.

He also congratulated him on his emergence as the speaker of the Delta State House if Assembly.

Highlighting some of the aims of the visit, Mr. Orusi, noted that the Chapel, basically work closely with the grassroot populace.

He said there is the need to partner with the state legislature by way of transmitting and reporting factually the activities and events of the State House of Assembly back to the grassroot.

He also stated that the visit was also to solicit and appeal to the Speaker and the House to give backing and support to the State governor in ensuring that the newly created Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development become a substantive ministry that would not fade out at the expiration of Oborevwori’s administration.

While commending the Speaker and the House for services and representation so far, Mr. Orusi, called on the Speaker to ensure that the Anti-grazing Bill that has been passed into law by the House was implemented fully as cattle herders still walk freely with their cows in public places and farms destroying crops.
