THE STORY EXCLUSIVE: Delta Set To Task N5, 000 Annual POS Levy On Operators, Gives 7 Days Autimatum

The worst is yet to be heard from the Victor Ofobrukueta-led administration in Ethiope east local government area of Delta State, who has placed N5, 000 Operational Levy on Point Of Service (POS) Operators in the council area.

In a letter signed by one Hon. Tega, Enakerakpo, chairman POS Sub-Revenue Committee, Ethiope East Local Government, Isiokolo, on 31st August 2021 and obtained by The Story, has directed all POS Operators, Kokori-Inland chapter to pay within seven days or face litigation.

According to the letter, “as part of the urgent need of Ethippe East Local Government Council to have a proper and approved POS Operators in the local government area, the local government has decided to notify you to pay your POS annual operational levy of five thousand naira (N5, 000) only.

“Take note that you are requested within 7 days to make payment to the account stated below as failure to abide by this demand notice will attract serious legal action against you.

The Operators are to pay to Zenith Bank.

Account name: Ethiope East Centre Sub-Revenue.

Account number: 1216489980, with further directive to call 08136693446, for further enquiries.

When The Story, contacted 08136693446, who identified himself as Hon. Tega Oloye, he said: “I am the chairman of POS, call your House of assembly member, call the local government chairman, don’t call me again”.

When The Story, pressed further if there was any law backing the letter, he said “that paper in your hand is the law. Go and pay into the account or to the people that will come around you in cash”, he said.
