Asaba, Delta State – The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to executing impactful projects and strengthening collaborations with relevant federal agencies to ensure maximum benefits for the state and its people.
Speaking on recent engagements with the federal government, the state government highlighted its proactive approach to infrastructure development, transportation improvements, and social interventions, emphasizing the importance of a harmonious working relationship with the federal administration.
Commitment to Infrastructure and Transportation Development
In a significant move towards enhancing transportation networks, Delta State recently joined the federal government in the concessioning of the Benin–Omnicham Expressway.
This initiative is expected to ease transportation challenges along the corridor and improve road accessibility.
The state government has expressed full support for the project, acknowledging its potential to boost economic activities and facilitate smoother transit.
Further reinforcing this state-federal collaboration, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, and Delta State Governor represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a crucial event underscoring the cordial relationship between the state and federal governments.
The engagement also secured a federal commitment to completing Section 2A of the Second Niger Bridge approach road, a 17.5-kilometer stretch designed to decongest Asaba’s city center by providing a direct link between the South-South and South-East regions.

The Delta State Government emphasized that it remains focused on collaborating with the federal administration for the collective good of the nation.
“At this moment, Nigeria has one president, and we will continue to cooperate with that president to ensure that our country functions efficiently,” the State Commissioner for Works Rural and Riverine and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, stated.
During a press briefing on Tuesday March 26, 2025, Aniagwu said the administration believes that political stability and national unity are essential to sustaining development across all states.
Presidential Approval for Key State Projects
As part of its strategic engagement with the federal government, the Delta State Government has secured the president’s approval for the completion of critical road infrastructure, particularly the alignment connecting the Second Niger Bridge.
This project is expected to enhance mobility, strengthen economic ties, and expand developmental opportunities in the state.
Appreciating the First Lady’s Humanitarian Efforts
Beyond infrastructure, Delta State also welcomed Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on a two-day working visit.
Her presence underscored the federal government’s commitment to supporting healthcare and social welfare initiatives in the South-South region.
During her visit, over 10,000 midwife kits were distributed across the six states of the South-South, with Delta State serving as the focal point.
The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes maternal and child healthcare.
The First Lady also engaged students and corps members, providing resources to support their development, particularly for the girl-child.
The government expressed its deep appreciation for the First Lady’s humanitarian gestures, acknowledging her contributions to improving healthcare and empowering vulnerable groups.
The visit also saw the involvement of the Vice President’s wife, who participated in distributing welfare items to support citizens.
