As the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, takes a more dangerous twist, members of the Knight of Saint Molumba (KSM), said it caused them to move their annual convention from Owerri in Imo State to Asaba, Delta State.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, to kickstart this year’s event, Supreme Knight, Sir Diamond Ovueraye, hinted that the Supreme Convention is an annual rotational event from one metro council to another until it goes round all nine metro councils.
He bemoaned that Asaba, the Delta State capital, has had to host twice in one due to insecurity in the south east.
“The eastern hemisphere of the federal republic of Nigeria has in the past few years agitated for a restoration of status quo before all protectorates were harmonized to modern day Nigeria.
“These agitations have lad to the evident insecurity milieu in the current day south eastern region of Nigeria.
Speaking further, Sir Ovueraye, regretted that even the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), was supposed to hold theirs conference in Enugu but changed location to Abuja for security reasons.
“Lawyers moved theirs to Port harcourt. All it takes is for one man to shoot a bullet into one of our buses and the rest is history and that could have been averted, and that’s the reason why we came back to Asaba.”
The Supreme Knight of Saint Molumba, disclosed that the relocation took them five weeks just as he said the theme “Normalization of the abnormalities in the context of the Nigerian Society- An Enquiry”, was selected for a robust deliberation.
Sir Ovueraye stated that he was earlier quoted out of contest on the “No LVC, No Communion catch phrase“ stressing that “I don’t support the idea of “No PVC, No Communion.
“The church encourages people to go into politics but is not and will not stop eligible Catholics from receiving communion. Politics is a personal choice.
“The statement “No PVC, No Communion” was merely a figure of speech, just to show the importance of the PVC”, he said.
While speaking on the state of the nation which would be further discussed in succeeding days of the convention, the Supreme Knight hinted “We know that most of us no matter how highly placed you are, are feeling the pinch, and to that effect we have cushioned up the effect through palliatives worth more than 100m during COVID-19 era to the less privileged, free healthcare amongst others, he added.
