The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has dropped the name of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s preferred Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), governorship candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori, from its sever ahead of the 2023 governorship election.

This came barely 24 hours to the hearing of the substantive suit challenging Oborevwori’s victory at the May 25th primaries which produced him as the winner at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.

A source disclosed that the name of his rival, and Chief James Onanefe Ibori’s anointed candidate, Olorogun David Edebvie, has been uploaded to replace Oborevwori, over certificate discrepancies.

According to the source, “PDP has transmitted Olorogun David Edevbie’s name to INEC as the legally and authentic Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate and INEC has also uploaded same.

‘It’s victory for democracy and victory for all Deltans”.

It would be recall that The Story, had reported that INEC, in a letter dated 18th July, 2022 and signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Rose Orainran Anthony, acknowledged receipt of the judgment by a Federal High Court that declared Edevbie as the party’s candidate while disqualifying Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori over discrepancies in his results that carried different names.

The letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, acknowledged the judgement with SUIT NO FHC/(AB)/CS/795/2022, saying that the judgment has been served on the commission

“While hoping your party takes note of the judgement order, please accept the assurance of the commission warm regards,” the letter added.
