With less than three months to the commencement of the year 2023 general elections, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Warri south chapter, has endorsed the gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, as its preferred choice for governor.
CAN openly endorsed the standard bearer of the Social Democratic Party, declaring that he remains the most qualified of all the governorship candidates that has the capacity to industrialize the State.
The apex decision making body of the Church comprising, the Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN), Christian Association of Nigeria (PFN), Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) and Evangelical Church Winning All (ECKWA-TEKAN) also implored Deltans particularly the Church not to be deceived when choosing the next governor of the state.
CAN noted that its members would no longer sit on the fence and allow unbelievers install persons with violent and questionable character who could take the state back to the days of terror and politically motivated killings.
Speaking on Monday February 6th 2023, at Total Victory Church, Int’l, Warri, Warri south local government area of the State, the CAN chairman for the local government area, Rev. Dr. Triumph Etaoghene, lamented that the Church has been docile when it comes to politics.
He charged the Church not to sit on the fence, insisting that it should take active part in electing credible leaders in the forthcoming elections.
Hear him: “God has divinely connected me to Olorogun Gbagi himself just few week ago and he has promised to visit us and he is true to his word.
“We want to thank God that God made it possible for him to be here. He stood by his word.
“We are tired of what is happening in Nigeria, and in the leadership of our country. The Church has been docile when it comes to politics.
“Since I came onboard, I have been telling my people that we have to come in, because if we don’t come in, all kind of people and rule us.
“By the grace of God, Warri south, has a lot of people that are registered. It is my prayers that our eyes will be opened and that the Church will continue to embrace politics.
“We have been hearing of you, Olorogun but I have been hearing from you from a distance but I thank God that I am getting closer to you and I am close to you now by God’s grace.
“I too believed that, from the day I heard from you, I fell in love with you and the very first time I saw you, was in Asaba, when you came to speak.
“I have heard the various gubernatorial candidates speak face-to-face but when I first heard you when my friend introduce me to you, since that time, I feel in love with you.
“Honestly speaking, I believe that the church has gone beyond this party system, this partisan issue. We don’t want a situation whereby we vote because we are in a party.
“I told everybody before you came that this is not the time if playing party, this is the time of voting an individual that we know that is capable of turning things around.
“Don’t vote because you are in a party. This party system is what is killing us”, he regretted.
