There were mixed reactions over the declaration of eight persons wanted by the Defence Headquarters over the murder of 17 soldiers, resulting in the burning down of Okuama community by the soldiers in Ughelli south local government area of Delta State.
Some Nigerians on X on Thursday 28 March 2024, took a swipe at the military high Command, wondering if it was the constitutional right of the military to invade, burn and declare suspects wanted in the matter.
Others asserted that the military has a right to what they have done following the alleged killing of their personnel.
A reaction by an X user, Esteem, said: “I actually do think this should be the job of the Nigeria police.
“Not exactly sure the military has a constitutional backing to do this”.
Nwafresh: “If our Army are allowed to be this active with the death of our officers since the inception of Boko Haram, we won’t be having Bandits, and other terrorist organizations disturbing the peace of the nation..
“We can now see that if our military wants to work, they’ll do it effortlessly. Something is wrong somewhere”.
Tanmola: “So what’s the essence of burning down a whole village when the culprits are on the run?
Lawrence L. Okoro: “So what about the people y’all killed in the Niger Delta communities about of this case?
“The civilian lives doesn’t matter? Should we also declare your men wanted for slaying innocent lives in the communities?
“You went in search of these listed above and ended up killing hundreds of people during your search”, stressing, he said: “the military should do better”.
Truth Talker: “In as much as what happened in Okinawa is not worth praising and deserves condemnation, I ask the Nigerian Army why have they been ignoring BH?
“Federal government even granted them amnesty and you are here posting wanted. Nigeria is not ready to move forward”.
Truth Only: “You are praising it indirectly because you obviously don’t want the military to show them why it’s intolerable to kill a soldier.
“Have you been mentally deaf or blind to see how the military has been fighting BH for years. Useless skull of a head”.
