Accordingly to Opkara, the only son was knocked down by a reckless driver when the child was about crossing the road after he closed from school.
Hear him: “My only son was knocked down by a reckless driver on Wednesday evening, as he was coming out from his primary school gate to cross the main road.
“He sustained serious head, and possibly other organ injuries, with nose bleedings. He has been in coma and has been unconscious since then.
“He was first taken to All Saints Hospital at 33, Onitsha before I was informed by his school management. I went to that hospital, and upon seeing my son, I broke down.
“A brilliant, small boy of 9 years, comatose, unconscious, bloodstained, with periodic seizures, yet peaceful and very handsome, in between.
“I noticed his irregular breathings, and quickly called for an ambulance, equipped with oxygen, to take him from there to a better equipped, St Charles Borromeow Hospital, Onitsha.
“We arrived the hospital at about 10pm. My only son’s condition worsened and he actually wanted to give up that night, but was stabilized by the concerted efforts of beautiful and hardworking medical personnels of All Saints Hospital and St Charles Borromeow hospital. Seconds and minutes mattered and they tried.
“Yesterday, St Charles Borromeow hospital referred us to Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi and we arrived there/here yesterday evening, with highly medically equipped ambulance.
“On our arrival yesterday evening, I noticed fresh young doctors attending to my son. He was admitted in Children’s emergency ward. I have not slept properly or eaten properly since I have to keep vigil and monitor my son.
“Today, my son’s condition deteriorated. He suffered serious seizures, irregular breathings; and was obviously giving up! He was referred to Intensive Care Unit, by the doctors.
“Initially, one particular black nurse refused to open the door to the the ICU when we brought him there! She bluntly told us that there is no space there, when there is actually two spaces!
“I broke down and started crying openly, which attracted many nurses, doctors, etc, coupled with my son’scondition. That nurse backed down and my son is inside there now as we await further outcome. Please pray for my son”, he begged.
