Landlords and residents flee their homes as business activities were shutdown following the murder of an unidentified vigilante group member by unknown gunmen who tookover New Okpe road in Jeddo, Okpe local government area of Delta State.
The incident which according to residents of the area occurred Friday July 23, 2021 at night when the daredevil hoodlums occupied the area in a Commando style, as residents scampered for safety.
It was gathered that the bandit robbed the neighbourhood at will without any challenge in an attempt to resist them, a vigilante group member was shot at close range on the stomach, leading to his death two days after at the hospital due to internal bleeding.
One of the numerous house owner in the area who pleaded anonymity said the hoodlums always come in their numbers everyday to terrorize the new Okpe road axis of Jeddo which has occasioned people fleeing their comfort homes to seek refuge elsewhere becoming beggars and intensely displaced people in the community.
Residents appealed to the state government, the local government chairman and other relevant stakeholders to intervene to give them hope and secure their lives and property in what they described as once peaceful community.
It was gathered that some months ago security vans patrols the area to provide protection for residents but they went to oblivion after sometime before the situation got worse in recent times.
