ABBA KYARI: Prima Faciie Case Of Extradition Established, Says Malami

113

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Right Honourable Abubakar Malami SAN recently pronounced that a prima faciie case of extradition has been established against the super cop, Abba Kyari as being indicted in the trial of Ramon Abass, otherwise known as Hushpuppy in a wire fraud case in far away United States.

Would this not amount to Nigeria surrounding her jurisdiction and sovereignty to the United States in a matter that it has jurisdiction over?

The offence in which the suspended police officer is being accused is an offence known to the Nigerian law and which could be tried by Nigerian court with the powers of conviction or acquittal.

It is surprising then that an accused person who is not a fugitive from the United States and which Nigeria has Parri pasu prosecutory powers over the offence or offences being accused of is now being pushed to stand trial of the offences in the United States by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

It is settled in international law that no independent country is above or below the other and it is always wise for Nigeria to exert its sovereignty and strive to judiciously decide on issues that will give it credence.

From the account of the offences being levelled against Abba Kyari, they are allegedly been committed within the jurisdiction of Nigeria by a Nigerian National and which are know to the Nigerian law. So why does the Attorney General wants to abdicate the nation’s power in adjudicating over the mater?

If a prima faciie case has been established against the officer, the attorney general should without delay charge him to court to defend himself and leave the court to either find him guilty or acquit him.

Nigeria is not sub nation to any country including United States of America.
